Osteria Leana

OYSTER BAY, NY

In Italy, an “osteria” was originally a place serving wine and simple food. Named in honor of the owner’s grandmother, Osteria Leana, is an intimate restaurant in historic Oyster Bay, NY offering modern Italian cuisine with seasonally available ingredients from local farmers and vendors. The design mixes classic and modern typography with vintage lifestyle imagery from New York and Little Italy.

Osteria Leana’s logotype combines a high contrast oblique script with a modified version of Neutraface. Single and double hair lines are used to frame the logo, typography, and images throughout many of the collateral pieces.

A subtle typographic palette combines geometric Art Deco-styled fonts in a manner the creates rich visual interest while still being understated.

Because the restaurant is located in a historic district minimal modifications could be made to the building’s facade. Therefore, the restaurant’s exterior applies the identity system gently through modest architectural accents.

Promotional campaigns used lifestyle and editorial photography sourced from vintage images of Manhattan and Little Italy. The images are doutoned and become a background layer to support headline typography.
